Movie Appearances and Storyline
The Golden Malamute is a sled dog on Wild Joe's Team who lives in Nome. He is only seen a few times throughout Balto.
He is first seen at the beginning of the movie when Wild Joe's Team races against Steele's Team. He is focused ahead and doesn't look at Steele. When Steele sees that he's running out of time to pass the opposing team before they reach the Narrow Pass, he lunges down and snaps his jaws near Chester's paw, causing his team to go out of control and lose the race. After the team crashes, Golden Malamute is laying on his stomach, panting. He looks up at his musher as he yells after Steele.
Before the race for the fastest dogs, Golden Malamute is seen smiling and seemingly speaking to Kaltag. When Steele comes over to survey the group, they all quickly line up and sit tall. Golden Malamute looks anxious and afraid as Steele passes him.
When Balto joins the group, he exchanges shocked looks with the other dogs. When Nikki suggests they let him run because it'll be fun making him eat their snow, the malamute narrows his eyes at Balto.
When the race begins, Golden Malamute takes up second place behind Wild Joe, however is seen a moment later running behind Balto, Kaltag, and Nikki. When the race begins, he is running behind Balto. As Balto skids onto Snake River, Golden Malamute is in fourth place. As Balto takes the lead, Golden Malamute is seen in fifth place, running beside Wild Joe. After Balto lands in front of Nikki, Golden Malamute is seen running past him. He appears to finish in ninth place.
Golden Malamute is next seen in the Gold Dredger, sitting beside Wild Joe. When Doc tells them that Steele's Team is lost, Golden Malamute is shocked and confused.
When Jenna tells the others that Balto is tracking the lost team, Golden Malamute laughs with the other dogs. Steele returns and claims that the rest of the team is dead, Golden Malamute listens anxiously and looks sad at Balto's fake death.
